SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

7:00 P.M.                                                   Second Floor Meeting Room

 

 

Members Present:     Burke Bayer,  David Bollman, William Clark, William Eberle, Steve Galitzer, Karen McCulloh, Gary Naughton, Monty Wedel, Judy Willingham, Van Withee, Fran Zerby

 

Members Absent:      Betty Book, Dianne Brummet, Phyllis Epps, Jerry Ericson, Dan Harden, David Horn, John Hunt, Ernest Jordan, Edmund Kriebs, Roger Kvasnicka, Alan Ladd, Bruce McCallum, John Ott, Dennis Peterson, Bob Rogers, Damian Schmidt, Karen Visser, Howard Wilson

 

 

The meeting was called to order by Steve Galitzer, Chair.

 

 

AGENDA

 

 

1.         Roll call (Attendance sign-up sheet)

 

            The attendance sign-up sheet was passed around the table.

 

 

2.         Minutes of  Previous Meeting.

 

            A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of  August 27, 1996 as

            distributed.  Motion carried unanimously. 

 

           

3.         Worksession on Solid Waste Management Plan

            (Break into subcommittees)

 

            Galitzer introduced materials from staff.  He suggested breaking into sub-           committees for a few minutes and then regathering to discuss the new drafts of      each chapter.  Galitzer also stated that he would like to have the changes from this           meeting sent out this month so that everyone will have them for the next meeting.            This would expedite the process so that the plan may be adopted at the October       meeting.     

           

            The group broke into sub-committees for a brief discussion and then reconvened.

4.         Subcommittee Reports

 

 

           

            EDUCATION:  Fran Zerby

 

            They asked for some additional help on text.

 

 

 

            RECYCLING:  John Ott

 

            A decision was made to state in the plan that there is no ‘organized community’

            curbside recycling program at this time.  They also discussed a Goal      Statement.   The SWMC worked as a group on making corrections to some of the                  wording.

 

 

            YARD WASTE:  Judy Willingham

 

            Reported on additional information added to the chapter.

           

            SPECIAL WASTE:    Steve Galitzer

 

            The following sections need to be added:

                       

                                    a)         Animal Waste & Carcasses

                                    b)         Car Batteries

                                    c)         White Goods

 

 

            The committee then went through the policy action plan spreadsheets.  All changes         are reflected in the spreadsheets.

                       

           

5.         Set date and time for next meeting/Adjourn

 

            The next meeting will be October 29, 1996, at 7:00 in the 2nd floor conference             room, Riley County Office Building.  Meeting was adjourned.
