Roll Call – The meeting was called to order by Chairman
Steve Galitzer. An attendance sheet was passed around.
Approve Minutes of
Previous Meeting – The minutes
of the previous meeting were not available.
Discuss Earth Day
Activities – Judy Willingham passed around booth volunteer sign-up
sheets for the Sunset Zoo Earth Day activities to be held on 17 April 1999, and
Recycling Rewards at Howie’s on the 24 April 1999.
Diane Stoddard, Earth Day
sub-committee member is working on the proclamation. The official proclamation
will be at 10:00 a.m., April 15, 1999, Bldg 500 Headquarters, Fort Riley, Kansas. Diane will coordinate with Bob Newsome, Riley County Commissioner to appoint a
representative from Riley County to attend the proclamation.
Judy Willingham discussed the
following Earth Week events with the committee.
Your Files Week” – April 19-24 – Riley County, City of Manhattan and KSU
Earth Day Enviro
Fair & Human Health Expo – April 17, 1999 Sunset Zoo 10-5:30
Rewards – April 24, 1999, Howie’s Recycling 8 – noon, Free Coffee for those who
bring their own cups, other prizes available.
Diane Stoddard is working on
flyers to be distributed through out the county for these events.
Other business – Steve Galitzer, Judy Willingham, John Woods and
William Clark attended the Recycling & Composting Works! Conference held on
March 16, 17 and 18th in Lindsborg, Kansas. Each member gave a brief
overview. The only disappointment was that nobody from the glass industry was
represented at the conference. Steve told the members that the Wilson’s
(owners of Howie’s Recycling) were recongized at the conference for their
efforts in Recycling and thought it would be nice if Riley County would also
express their gratitude to the Wilson’s for the great job they are doing.
A brief discussion followed
on how to spend the $14,000 grant money from KDHE, no final decision was made.
Set date and time for
next meeting/adjourn - The next
meeting will be April 15, 1999 at 7:00, 2nd Floor Conference Room,
Riley County Office Building, 110 Courthouse Plaza.
