State Water Resources Cost-Share Program

Access Road, Channel Crossing

Purpose-To provide a means of moving cattle across a creek or stream with minimal disruption to the bed and banks from erosion and sedimentation. -top-

Contour Buffer Strip

Purpose-To stabilize the soil, reduce erosion, trap nutrients and pesticides and improve wildlife habitat. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost of grass seeding. -top-

Critical Area Planting

Purpose-To stabilize the soil, reduce damage from sediment and runoff to downstream areas and improve wildlife habitat. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for shaping and grass seeding. -top-

Dike

Purpose-To assist in regulating water for protection of feedlots and to make better use of drainage facilities. -top-

Dry Hydrant

Purpose-To provide access to water supplies for use in combating wildfires and prescribed burning. -top-

Feedlot Windbreak

Purpose-To protect soil resources, control snow deposition and provide shelter for livestock. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for tree planting, fencing and mulching. -top-

Fencing

Purpose-To exclude livestock or big game from areas that should be protected from grazing, control domestic livestock while permitting wildlife movement, to protect new seedlings and plantings from grazing, or subdivide grazing land to permit use of grazing systems and utilize grazing management strategies to enhance grass conditions and to prevent concentration of animals in the riparian zone. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for barbwire or mesh fence material. -top-

Field Border

Purpose-To control erosion, to reduce competition from adjacent woodland, if present, and to increase production of wildlife by providing food and/or cover. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for grass seeding. -top-

Field Windbreak

Purpose-To reduce soil erosion, control snow deposition, protect crops and conserve moisture. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for tree planting, fencing and mulching. -top-

Filter Strip

Purpose-To remove sediment and other pollutants from runoff or waste water by filtration, deposition, infiltration, absorption, decomposition and volatilization, thereby reducing pollution and protecting the environment. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for seeding grass. -top-

Grade Stabilization Structure

Purpose-To stabilize the grade and control erosion in natural or artificial channels, to prevent the formation or advance of gullies, and to enhance environment quality and reduce pollution hazards. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for earthwork, pipe and other components associated with pipe installation, grass seeding and fencing. $5,000 maximum payment limit. -top-

Grassed Waterway

Purpose-To provide for the disposal of excess surface water from terraces, diversions or from natural concentrations without damage by erosion or flooding. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for shaping excavation. -top-

Mulching

Purpose-To conserve moisture, prevent surface compaction or crusting, reduce runoff and erosion, control weeds and help establish plant cover. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost of weed barrier fabric. -top-

Pasture and Hayland Planting

Purpose-To reduce erosion and to adjust land use. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for brome or native grass seeding. -top-

Pipeline

Purpose-To convey water from a source of supply to points of use. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for pipe and other components associated with pipe installation. -top-

Pond and/or Pond Restoration

Purpose-To provide water for livestock and to maintain or improve water quality. Note: All livestock water supply practices must be constructed or installed to serve pastures 40 acres or larger. Practices may be installed in pastures less than 40 acres when livestock are excluded from a stream. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 50% of the actual cost for pipe, earthwork, etc. $5,000 maximum payment limit. -top-

Pumping Plant for Water Supply

Purpose-To provide a power source for a dependable alternative water source for livestock that have typically watered from a natural stream and thereby improve and protect the water quality of that stream. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for solar pump and solar panels. -top-

Range Seeding

Purpose-To reduce soil and water loss and to improve water quality. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for native grass seeding. -top-

Sediment Control Basin

Purpose-To abate pollution by providing basins for deposition and storage of sediment and agricultural wastes as part of a livestock waste management program. -top-

Spring Development

Purpose-To improve the distribution of and to increase quantity of water for livestock. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for collection and delivery. -top-

Streambank and Shoreline Protection

Purpose-To stabilize the eroding streambanks, reduce damage from sediment and runoff to downstream areas and improve wildlife habitat. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for shaping, anchors, clamps and tree plantings. -top-

Subsurface Drain

Purpose-To improve the soil environment for vegetative growth by regulating the water table and groundwater, alleviating seepage problems; and to remove surface runoff. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost of pipe. -top-

Tank or Trough

Purpose-To provide watering facilities for livestock at selected locations that will protect vegetative cover through proper distribution of grazing or through better grassland management for erosion control. Another purpose on some sites in order to reduce or eliminate livestock access to streams in order to reduce pollution from animal waste and streambank erosion. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for 600 gallon concrete tank or 100 gallon concrete freeze proof tank. -top-

Terraces

Purpose-To reduce slope length, reduce erosion, reduce sediment content in runoff water, improve water quality, intercept and conduct surface runoff at a non-erosive velocity to a stable outlet, retain runoff for moisture conservation, prevent gully development , reform the land surface, improve flammability, or reduce flooding. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for excavation. -top-

Tree Planting

Purpose-To establish or reinforce a stand of trees, to conserve soil and moisture for wildlife habitat or protect watershed. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for tree planting. -top-

Underground Outlet

Purpose-To dispose of excess water from terraces, diversions, sub-surface drains, surface drains, trickle tubes, principal spillways from dam (outside the dam area only) or the other concentrations without causing damage by erosion or flooding. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for pipe and associated components. -top-

Waste Storage Facility or Waste Treatment Lagoon

Purpose-A planned system to manage liquid and solid wastes, including run off from concentrated waste areas, with ultimate disposal in a manner which does not degrade air, soil or water resources. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for earthwork, pipe and concrete. -top-

Water and Sediment Control Basin

Purpose-To trap and collect sediment, reduce on-site erosion, reduce the content of sediment in water, reduce peak rate of flow at downslope locations, reduce flooding, reduce gully erosion, reform land surface and improve the potential of areas for farming. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for earthwork and underground outlets. -top-

Well

Purpose-To facilitate proper use of vegetation on rangeland and pastures and to supply the water requirements of livestock. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for casing. -top-

Wetland Development or Restoration

Purpose-This practice may be used for erosion control, flood storage, flood conveyance, habitat for threatened and endangered species, sediment control, water quality improvement and wildlife habitat. A cost-share rate of 70% of the county average cost not to exceed 70% of the actual cost for earthwork and pipe. -top-
