Guidelines for Isolation and Quarantine
To help determine how long you need to isolate, quarantine, or take other steps to prevent spreading COVID-19.
ISOLATE if you test positive for COVID-19
Everyone who tests positive, regardless of vaccination status, is required to:
- Stay home for at least 5 days.
- Stay home as long as you have symptoms. If you have a fever, continue to stay home until your fever resolves.
- If you have no symptoms or your symptoms resolve, you can leave your house after a minimum of 5 days of isolation.
- Continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days after you leave isolation.
Isolation is used to separate people infected with COVID-19 from those who are not infected. People who are in isolation should stay home until it's safe for them to be around others.
At home, anyone sick or infected should separate from others, stay in a specific “sick room” or area, and use a separate bathroom (if available). Find more information about isolation on the CDC website at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/quarantine-isolation.html
When is it safe to be around others after being sick with COVID-19?

Quarantine is used to keep someone who might have been exposed to COVID-19 away from others. Quarantine helps prevent the spread of disease that can occur before a person knows they are sick or if they are infected with the virus without feeling symptoms. People in quarantine should stay home, separate themselves from others, monitor their health, and follow their state or local health department directions.
