Noxious Weed

Kansas law requires all property owners to control noxious weeds on their property.

The Riley County Noxious Weed Department provides cost-share herbicides for noxious weed control and total vegetation management for Riley County and its residents.

Duties of the department include:

  • Enforcing the Kansas Noxious Weed Law
  • Providing cost-share chemical to landowners for noxious weed control
  • Providing education and recommendations for treating noxious weeds
  • Managing a complete vegetation management program on county roads including all spraying operations, roadside mowing, brush and tree removal, and seeding projects
  • Contracting with KDOT and numerous townships for noxious weed control on their rights-of-way
  • Administering the property management plan for the county consisting of all vacant property owned by the county
  • Code enforcement of tall vegetation (over 12 inches) in platted areas of Riley County outside of incorporated cities
  • During the winter months, the department is also responsible for snow removal on county parking lots and assists Public Works with snow removal on county roads.

Due to a series of events at the international level many supply chains have been disrupted. Riley County is not immune to these supply issues and as such our chemicals we sell for cost share in the control of noxious weeds has been effected. We continue to do everything possible to minimize the impact however consumers should expect possible price increases or out of stock supply issues.

As you plan this growing season plan accordingly and be patient as these matters get resolved and supply chains level back out.

We are currently stocked and will commence regular sales effective immediately. If you prefer to check availability please call 785-539-3202.

Thank you for the continue effort to control noxious weeds in Riley County and we look forward to seeing you this season.
