Riley County Attorney

The Riley County Attorney's Office is responsible for prosecuting criminal and traffic offenses which occur within Riley County. In addition to criminal prosecution, this office handles Child In Need of Care and Involuntary Commitments.

Who We Are

The Riley County Attorney, an elected position every four years, is Barry Wilkerson.

The County Attorney’s Office has six assistant County Attorneys:

What We Do

County Attorney job duties include:
  • Aggravated Batteries
  • Child in Need of Care Cases - Such cases are confidential and therefore not public record; Often involve serious crimes where the child's life may be in immediate danger and is thus removed from the home through court proceedings.

  • Drug Offenses
  • Financial Crimes
  • Juvenile Cases
  • Kidnapping
  • Person Crimes - murder, rape, etc.
  • Robberies
  • Sexual Assault Offenses
  • Traffic Offenses

Multiple Agency Cooperation

The Riley County Attorney’s Office works with the Riley County Police Department, the Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Wildlife and Parks Department, Kansas State University Police Department, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, in addition to the following Federal Agencies: the DEA, FBI, ATF and the Secret Service.
