                                     SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Members Present: Betty Book, William Clark, William Eberle, Steve Galitzer, Dan Harden, Joe Kitterman, Roger Kvasnicka, Alan Ladd, Molly Lindquist, Karen McCulloh,   Barb Sanner, Diane Stoddard, Jean Waters, Monty Wedel, Judy Willingham, Howard Wilson, John Woods and Fran Zerby.


Others Present:      Ralph Sanner , 


Members Absent:   Gerald Baer, Burke Bayer, David Bollman, Phyllis Epps, Jerry Ericson, Ernest Jordan, Richard Nelson, Bob Newsome, Dennis Peterson, Doug Schonberner, and Van Withee.



Sign-in, Introductions and Welcome New Members – The sign-up sheet was passed around and signed by those present.


Approve the minutes of the previous meeting – The minutes for the January 13, 2000 meeting were approved as distributed. 



Work Session on updates to Solid Waste Management Plan – Wedel told the committee that KDHE has granted Riley County an extension for the plan revisions, deadline is December 31, 2000.    For suggested revisions made to the current plan please refer to the attached work session notes.


Discuss Earth Day activities –  Howie’s Recycling Rewards will be held on the 22nd of April 2000.  The Sunset Zoo activities are scheduled for April 15, 2000.   Volunteers are needed for both events.  Clean Your Files Week will be April 17-21,2000.  Diane Stoddard asked that everyone really support this worthwhile event. 



New Business – A motion was made for the Solid Waste Management Committee to look into C&D Landfill Options and to encourage private ownership.  Carried unanimously


Next meeting – Scheduled for Thursday April 13, 2000 at 7:00 at the Riley County Office Building.
