Members Present: Betty Book, William Clark, William Eberle, Steve Galitzer, Dan Harden, Joe Kitterman, Roger Kvasnicka, Monty Wedel, Chuck Williams, John Woods and Fran Zerby

Sign-in, Introductions  ­ Guests were introduced.  Chuck Williams was welcomed as a new member to the SWMC.   Mr. Williams will represent the City of Manhattan as city staff. The sign-in sheet was distributed.


Approve the minutes of the previous meeting  The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as presented.


Earth Day Concert   - Michael “Kaedden” Timi, Mooncraft Productions, presented some ideas on organizing an “Earth Day Concert”.   After a brief discussion the SWMC members present suggested that Mr. Timi contact the Students for Environmental (SEA), a non-profit K-State student organization and work with them on organizing a concert.  John Woods will arrange a meeting between Mooncraft Productions and SEA.


Discuss Earth Day Activities -   Dan Harden volunteered his staff to organize the 2001 Earth Day activities.



Discuss “Clean Your Files Week” -   Julie Winter reported that  “Clean Your Files Week” is scheduled for April 16 – 21, 2001.  The City of Manhattan is organizing this event and will distribute flyers next week.  Riley County won this event last year and will again challenge the City of Manhattan in the Large Business category.  John Woods would like to see K-State participate this year.


Discuss Expo 2001Julie Winter reported that there will be a “Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste” booth in Bramlage this year.   The Expo will be held on April 6-8.  Julie will send out a schedule next week asking for volunteers to help with the booth.



Discuss “Kansas Clean Sweep Mercury Collection” program -  Monty explained the program and informed the SWMC that our local HHW program is participating.  The collection dates are February 15, 2001 through April 15, 2001.



Update on Solid Waste Management Plan - Monty Wedel stated the revised SWMP was presented to the Board of County Commissioners on February 8, 2001 and approved for submittal to KDHE. 


Next meeting  - The next meeting will be May 10, 2001 7:00 in the Second Floor Conference Room of the Riley County Office Building.
