Free Class: Prescribed Fire & Controlled Burn Best Practices

Wednesday, February 28, 2024

Bryce Haverkamp, Northeast District Fire Management Officer with the Kansas Forest Service is offering a FREE class to help landowners manage controlled burns safely and effectively. No registration required.

Course Description:

Fire can be an effective and affordable land management tool when used wisely. If used irresponsibly- fire can lead to a devastating disaster. When utilizing fire to manage the landscape, it must be used in a specific way. Much like a prescription from a doctor to fix a medical issue, we must use fire the same way.  Prescribe fire must be done in a prescription, or controlled manner, to maximize the effects and benefits. Using fire in prescription reduces the chance of having an escape fire.  This class will provide knowledge to use prescribe fire and controlled burns in a safe and effective way.
