[ARCHIVED] 03-29-2020 New Order Concerning Child Care Facilities

(RILEY COUNTY, KS – March 29, 2020) On Saturday, March 28, 2020, Governor Laura Kelly announced a Stay Home Order for the State of Kansas. Governor Kelly’s Executive Order 20-16 supersedes the previous Riley County Stay Home Order #3 which listed specific provisions on safety measures for child care facilities to help mitigate the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

“We know child care is necessary for parents to be able to work at essential jobs,” Gibbs said. “We are putting extra precautions in place to protect our child care providers and the children in their care.”

Effective 12:01 a.m. on March 30, 2020, all child care facilities shall operate only under the conditions specified below under Local Health Order #4:

  • Childcare shall be carried out in stable groups of 10 or fewer (“stable” means the same 10 or fewer children are in the same group each day);
  • Children shall not move from one stable group to another
  • If more than one stable group of children is cared for at one facility, each stable group shall be in a separate room. Different stable groups shall not mix with one another; and
  • Childcare providers shall remain solely with one stable group of children.
  • Every child shall be screened for their temperature upon arrival and again just before leaving the facility. The temperature check cannot be taken within (4) hours after a fever reducing medication was given.
  • The child care facility shall present, upon request of the Local Health Officer, the completed screening form for each child in the facility. Failure to comply shall result in immediate closure of the facility by the Local Health Officer.

These guidelines apply to all childcare facilities. New children may be accepted at a childcare facility if room is available and the above rules are followed.

Custody sharing and family care can and should continue as ordered by individual court settlements.

A screening hotline staffed by medical personnel is available every day from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. to provide guidance for anyone who has symptoms. The screening hotline number is 785-323-6400.

A question and answer hotline for general questions about the coronavirus response in Riley County is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Q&A hotline number is 785-587-4526.

Local Health Officer Julie Gibbs will resume daily Facebook Live updates at 4:15 p.m. on Monday, March 30th. There will be no Facebook Live update on Sundays.

Public updates will be provided daily at 4:15 p.m. on the RCHD Facebook Page at https://facebook.com/rileycountyhealthdepartment.
