[ARCHIVED] 4-8-20 Westview Community Church Accepting and Distributing Cloth Masks

CDC recommendation on face masks

(RILEY COUNTY, KS – April 8, 2020) The Riley County Health Department has partnered with Westview Community Church to provide, free of charge, homemade cloth masks for the community in effort to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recommended wearing cloth masks in situations where social distancing measures are difficult to follow, such as when shopping at grocery stores or pharmacies. Guidance for the use of masks and patterns for making cloth masks can be found online at

This effort relies on the generous help from the Riley County community to make and donate the cloth masks.  Those who want to help are encouraged to make masks at home and deliver them to Westview Community Church, located at 615 Gillespie Drive in Manhattan, for distribution to the public. Please use the west entrance where the main office located for drop off.

Collection started today (Wednesday, April 8) from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., and will also take place on Friday 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., and Saturday 9:00 a.m. - noon.

Distribution of the collected masks will start next week, on Monday, April 13. Volunteers will collect and disinfect the received masks before distribution begins.

Hours for collection and distribution next week will be the same: M-W-F 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. - noon.

More information about the effort can be found on the Westview Community Church Facebook page at   Questions about the project will be answered through their Facebook page or by email at [email protected].
