[ARCHIVED] 10-5-20 Update: 76 New Cases

(RILEY COUNTY, KS – October 5, 2020) Riley County has 76 new positive cases since Wednesday’s report.

Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan is caring for 3 positive patients, and 1 Person Under Investigation (PUI)* at this time. The patients have symptoms severe enough to require hospitalization.

There are currently 15 active outbreaks in Riley County. No new areas of outbreak have been added since the report on Wednesday, September 30. Outbreaks at Theta Xi and Lambda Chi Alpha fraternities have expired since no new cases have been associated with those locations within the last 28 days.Anyone who has symptoms, is a close contact of a positive patient, or would like information about how to get tested should contact their health care provider or call the Riley County Screening Line at 785-323-6400. The Screening Line is staffed by nurses and is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Results from last week’s free testing events in Riley County started coming in on Saturday and patients were called over the weekend. So far, 10 of the 215 tested were positive but some results are still pending. Any participants who do not receive test results by Friday, October 9 should contact the health department at (785) 776-4779. 

RCHD is working with KDHE and the Kansas National Guard to provide additional free testing events in Riley County. When those dates and locations are finalized, that information will be posted on the Riley County Coronavirus website at www.rileycountyks.gov/coronavirus

Case counts are preliminary and subject to verification. Data for October 1-3 is still coming in and may impact the percent positive for the MMWR week 40. Additional data for Riley County has been delayed for staff to double-check the information. The total case number, and number of recovered cases will be released as soon as that data is verified and available.

Drive up flu shots are now available at the health department. Please make an appointment by calling 785-776-4779 ext. 7675 or schedule an appointment online at http://www.rileycountyks.gov/Flu.  RCHD will bill insurance for flu shots. Adults and children without insurance will not be charged for the vaccine, but will be asked to pay a $20 fee for the flu shot.

Scheduled written updates will be released on Mondays and Fridays, but new developments will be shared as soon as information is available.
