The Riley County Health Department is partnering with KDHE and the Kansas National Guard to offer two free, drive-up COVID-19 testing events in Manhattan’s City Park next week:

  • Friday, October 16, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 17, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Participants will be tested using the standard PCR nasal swab which checks for active virus. No appointment or doctor's referral is needed and all are welcome. Results typically take 2-3 days and both negative and positive patients will be notified. Please enter the park from Fremont Street, near the Wefald Pavilion, wear a mask and remain in your vehicle for testing.

“The free events offer a quick and easy way for people to get tested,” said Local Health Officer Julie Gibbs. “COVID-19 tests at the Riley County Swabbing Station are always free for patients, but they do require a doctor’s order. The free testing events are very helpful for people who do not have access to a local physician, don’t have health insurance, or would simply like to know whether or not they have the virus.”

Anyone who has symptoms, is a close contact of a positive patient, or would like information about how to get tested should contact their health care provider or call the Riley County Screening Line at 785-323-6400. The Screening Line is staffed by nurses and is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Drive up flu shots are now available at the health department. Please make an appointment by calling 785-776-4779 ext. 7675 or schedule an appointment online at rileycountyks.gov/flu.  RCHD will bill insurance for flu shots. Adults and children without insurance will not be charged for the vaccine, but will be asked to pay a $20 fee for the injection.

Percent positive information is updated each Monday and is also posted online in the Data & Info section of the Riley County Coronavirus web page at http://rileycountyks.gov/coronavirus

Case counts are preliminary and subject to verification.

The next video update will be Wednesday, October 14, at 4:15 p.m. on the Riley County Health Department’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Rileycountyhealthdepartment/.

Written updates will be sent to the media and shared with the public Mondays and Fridays.
