(RILEY COUNTY, KS – September 16, 2021) Riley County is saddened to learn of the death of longtime employee Cheryl Collins.

Collins passed away Wednesday morning after a brief illness.

She had worked for Riley County since March 1981 and was most recently the Historical Museum Director. Throughout her career, she grew the museum into a treasure where people from all over the country have come to learn about their lineage, and the history of our area.

“There is no one I know that had the knowledge, background, love and compassion for local history as she did,” said Riley County Commission Chair John Ford. “It was always a marvel to watch her light up when discussing Riley County’s past.”

Collins is survived by her husband and son.

Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home of Manhattan is in charge of arrangements. A funeral will take place Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church.
