Last night’s storm caused several grass fires in Riley County, mostly resulting from downed power lines. The largest fire was north of Randolph on Hilltop Road and all fires have been extinguished. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Officials believe the heavy smoke in the area was from the large fires in Ellis County, near Hays.
Please use extra caution when traveling today. STAY AWAY from any downed power lines.
Riley County Emergency Manager Russel Stukey is now gathering damage assessments for all County facilities.
Public Works Director John Ellerman reported that two large doors and one exhaust vent at the County shop were damaged in the storms. Trees are downed in several locations around the county and crews have been asked to clear debris from roads in the White Canyon area.
Any cities, townships, school districts, or other public entities that have damage to uninsured facilities or property should estimate the dollar amount and send that information to emergency management asap.
