[ARCHIVED] 12-16-21 Update: 139 New Positive Cases

RCHD COVID UPDATE

(RILEY COUNTY, KS – December 16, 2021) Riley County has identified 139 new COVID-19 cases and 116 additional recoveries since the last report on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. There are currently 170 active cases in Riley County.

Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan is caring for eight COVID-positive patients at this time, five of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). One of the positive patients, who is on the medical floor, has been vaccinated. The other positive patients have not been vaccinated.

“Local healthcare providers continue to report an increase in flu cases," said Local Health Officer Julie Gibbs. “If you have symptoms, your doctor will likely test you for both COVID-19 and influenza to make sure you’re getting the appropriate treatment. Guidelines for limiting virus transmission, such as frequent hand washing and wearing masks, will help with the spread of influenza, as well as COVID. As always, I encourage people to get vaccinated.”

The CDC provides information for influenza treatment as well as guidelines for how long to stay home at https://www.cdc.gov/flu/treatment/treatment.htm and https://www.cdc.gov/flu/business/stay-home-when-sick.htm.
