[ARCHIVED] 12-22-2021 COVID Update: 131 New Positive Cases

RCHD COVID UPDATE

(RILEY COUNTY, KS – December 22, 2021) Riley County has identified 131 new COVID-19 cases and 110 additional recoveries since the last report on Wednesday, December 16, 2021. There are currently 227 active cases in Riley County.

Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan is caring for 16 COVID-positive patients at this time. 10 patients are on the medical floor and 2 of the patients are fully vaccinated. 6 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on ventilators. All of the patients in the ICU are unvaccinated.

No cases of the Omicron variant have been identified in Riley County at this point.

“Please take extra precautions this holiday season and consider getting vaccinated if you haven’t already done so,” said Local Health Officer Julie Gibbs. “The Omicron variant is surging across the nation and local hospitalizations are on the rise. As much as we would all like COVID-19 to be behind us, we still need to exercise caution. Vaccinations continue to be our best defense and can help prevent hospitalizations.”

COVID-19 vaccine appointments at the Health Department are booked until mid-January. First, second, and booster doses of the vaccine are also available at local pharmacies and doctors offices. To find a complete list of vaccine providers in the area, visit https://www.vaccines.gov
