[ARCHIVED] 3/23/2022 Riley County COVID-19 Update

RCHD COVID UPDATE

(RILEY COUNTY, KS – March 23, 2022) Riley County identified 3 new COVID-19 cases and 11 additional recoveries in Week 11 (March 6 - 12). There are currently six active COVID-19 cases in the county.

Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan is currently caring for two COVID-19 positive patients.

The 2-week rolling percent positivity rate fell to 1.60% for the current period. The positivity rate was 2.87% for the previous two-week period.

“We are seeing fewer positive cases and very few people with severe symptoms,” said Local Health Officer Julie Gibbs. “It’s wonderful to see the hospitalization rate so low. If there are any increases in case numbers resulting from spring break travel, those will likely start to show up later this week or early next week. Overall, we’re in a much better situation than we were.”

COVID-19 testing in Riley County will change after April 1. KDHE will continue to offer free PCR tests at 3019 Anderson Avenue, Monday - Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. through April 1st.

Starting April 4, the RADXup team of grant-funded staff currently operating in the Riley County Health Department will move to the 3019 Anderson Avenue location where KDHE has been working. The RADXup team will offer both rapid and PCR tests from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 3019 Anderson Avenue through the month of April. The tests are free and no appointment is needed.

“The building at 3019 Anderson Avenue is leased through the end of April,” said Gibbs. “It’s a larger space that has been dedicated to COVID-19 testing, so it makes sense to move our testing operations there while the building is available.”

The demand for testing in Riley County continues to decrease as case numbers decline. In April, health department staff who currently assist with testing will return to their regular duties and the Riley County Health Department will no longer offer COVID-19 tests at its main location, 2030 Tecumseh Road. Instead, the health department will distribute take-home COVID tests.

COVID-19 vaccines will continue to be available at the health department with or without an appointment. Please visit the clinic at 2030 Tecumseh Road (Monday - Wednesday 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Thursday noon – 6 p.m., and Friday 8:30 - 11 a.m.) for a walk-in vaccination, or call (785) 565-6560 if you would like to schedule an appointment.

The next update will be published Wednesday, March 30.
