(RILEY COUNTY, KS – June 21, 2022) Cox Communications notified Riley County this morning that internet services will be disrupted for county offices tomorrow, June 22. Riley County offices and employees in all county buildings will NOT have access to internet or email services Wednesday, as part of Cox Communications network maintenance. Phone lines will still be available, but staff will not be able to respond to email messages or access online databases. The Riley County website will remain active.
“This outage will affect multiple public services,” said Information Technology Director Cory Meyer. “However, all of the county’s emergency services including 9-1-1, will remain operational. Emergency Medical Services, Riley County Police Department, Riley County Fire District #1, and Emergency Management departments will all be fully connected and fully staffed.”
Non-emergency services such as Riley County Courts will reschedule any Zoom hearings planned for Wednesday, June 22. Court officials will be in contact with defendants and lawyers who are impacted by the change.
The Riley County Treasurer’s Office will not offer motor vehicle services, such as registration and tag renewal, on Wednesday. Everyone who had an appointment scheduled for Wednesday has been notified and appointments have been rescheduled. Walk-in motor vehicle services will not be available.
The health department clinic will have limited ability to see walk-in patients during this time. Anyone with an existing appointment or time sensitive issue can still visit the clinic for services, but walk-in patients would be best advised to wait for another day. The Wednesday COVID-19 update will still be published.
The transfer station will accept all materials from established commercial customers, but the general public will only be able to drop off tree limbs and brush. No household waste or appliances will be accepted from the general public Wednesday due to the inability to process this type of payment without internet connection.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and we expect all services to be up and running Thursday,” said Information Technology Director Cory Meyer.
