A planned water outage scheduled for Wednesday, October 26 will impact approximately 134 residential and commercial water customers in the Konza Water District, located along HWY 18 and Hwy 177, east of the Kansas River in Riley County. See map below. Customers will be without water for an estimated 6 hours beginning at 9:00 a.m. October 26 while the City of Manhattan performs maintenance to the wholesale water main.
See PDF map of water outage area.
Residents in the Konza Water District are asked to keep all hydrants and water faucets closed during the scheduled outage (9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) to minimize the loss in water pressure. Any residual flow in the line is reserved for emergencies and to reduce the risk of contamination.
A boil water advisory will begin as soon as the pressure drops and will remain in effect until lifted by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE). Typically, boil water advisory testing can take from one to five days. Riley County Public Works will notify customers when the boil water advisory is lifted. See boil water advisory information below.
IF LAST MINUTE CHANGES TO THE SCHEDULE OCCUR, THE INFORMATION WILL BE POSTED ON THE CITY OF MANHATTAN AND RILEY COUNTY WEBSITES AND DISTRIBUTED THROUGH PRESS AND SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNELS. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, PLEASE CONTACT RILEY COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS AT (785) 537-6335.

Boil Water Advisory
Once water services are restored, customers in the affected area (Konza Water District) should observe the following precautions until further notice:
- If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.
- Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation or use bottled water.
- Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.
- Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
- Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.
The advisory will take place on October 26th, 2022 and will remain in effect until the conditions that placed the system at risk of bacterial contamination are resolved. KDHE officials will issue the advisory because of a loss of pressure in the distribution system due to system maintenance. Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.
Regardless of whether the public water supplier or Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) announced a boil water advisory, only KDHE can issue the rescind order following testing at a certified laboratory. Riley County Public Works will notify customers when the boil water advisory is lifted.
