[ARCHIVED] December 2022 Employee of the Month - Michelle Adams

Have you ever met one of those exceptional people who is kind, friendly, and provides excellent customer service all while calculating multiple math equations and balancing countless spreadsheets? Of course you have! Her name is Michelle Adams; she works in the Clerk’s Office as the Administrative Analyst for Accounts Payable.

This month, we get a chance to say thanks to Michelle for her five years of dedicated service to the people of Riley County. She received not one, but two nominations for Employee of the Month in December and is well deserving of the honor.

Michelle began her career with Riley County in the Public Works Department and accepted a position with the Clerk’s Office in 2021. Michelle is now responsible for all outgoing transactions including Accounts Payable, P card purchases, utility bills for all buildings and departments, and all other financial transactions for the county. In addition, she provides customer service in person and over the phone, helps issue county and state licenses, serves as a backup for Paylocity and payroll, and assists with elections when needed. She wears many hats and is always ready to help.

Michelle says she feels lucky to have found this career path.

“Working with numbers has always come easy to me and I enjoy the analytical part of accounting. Finding out what isn’t working, then figuring out how to fix it is incredibly satisfying at the end of the day. Some people aren’t ‘down to the penny types,’ but it’s really exciting to me when I find that penny,” said Adams.

Michelle says she inherited her work ethic from her parents. They are very determined people who believe in treating everyone with respect. Michelle’s mom is a teacher who she describes as having “the patience of a saint.” Her parents serve as inspiration for Michelle’s work today, and I think she’s been very successful both at following their good example in the office and at passing it along to her children, twin 13-year-olds.

The people who nominated Michelle said it best:

“Michelle always answers our questions with a positive cheerful attitude and goes out of her way to help resolve the issue.”

“She is kind and considerate to everyone and helps wherever is needed without being asked.”

“She is a total team player and is always there for the good of everyone.”

“Michelle is an exceptional person with exceptional work ethic; she deserves recognition.”

The best way to recognize Michelle for her tireless efforts would be for all of us to turn in receipts on time. The second-best way would be to follow her good example and share kindness; especially when we feel we have good reasons to be cranky. We’re grateful Michelle is part of the team at Riley County and so thankful she is patient with all of us. Congratulations on being awarded Employee of the Month for December 2022!
