(Riley County, KS - April 10, 2023) At 4:00 PM Saturday, April 8, Riley County Fire District #1 was dispatched to reports of a structure fire at 4440 Tuttle Creek Blvd. Lot 29. The first arriving unit found a small garden shed fully involved in fire.
The crew made an initial attack and brought the fire under control quickly. The garden shed was a total loss and the damage to adjacent homes was limited to melted vinyl siding from radiant heat. Damages are estimated at $10,000. No injuries were reported. A total of eight firefighters responded on three apparatus.
The fire may have been caused by children playing with a cigarette lighter and is currently under investigation by the Riley County Police Department. The owner of the property is listed as Riverchase Mobile Home Park.
“During overhaul, crews found some suspicious materials and alerted law enforcement on scene. When fire crews completed operations, they turned the scene over to law enforcement,” said Chief Russel Stukey.
