COVID-19 Safety Reminder August 22, 2023

Local hospitals are seeing an increase in positive COVID cases, and we want to make the community aware. Just like the typical flu season, as people travel, return to school, and spend more time indoors (due to the August heatwave rather than cold winter weather), there are more chances for viruses like COVID, the flu, and RSV to spread. People who have additional risk factors, or are immunocompromised, should be aware of the increased risk.

The same safety measures that help during flu season, like washing your hands thoroughly and staying home if you are sick, will help during hot weather, too.

Staying up to date with immunizations is another important safety precaution. You can get vaccinated at the health department, as well as most pharmacies and doctor’s offices. The latest flu shots and COVID boosters will be available this fall, and we’re planning our yearly Oct-FLU-ber Fest event later in October. We’ll make announcements as the date approaches.

If you have questions, please talk to a healthcare provider.
